Adopt a Torah

Welcome to the “Adopt a Torah” page. This page is dedicated to the collecting of funds for the repair of a sacred scroll (Torah), written lovingly by a sofer, or scribe. It contains the Five Books of Moses, the first part of the Hebrew Bible.

Over a period of many years the Hebrew letters in the Torah scroll start to crack and fade making the scroll not suitable for ritual use. When this occurs the Torah scroll is taken to a sofer or scribe who makes the necessary repairs to make the scroll kosher (suitable) for ritual use.

Congregation B’nai Jacob is a small congregation with only eighty families making up its membership. The board of directors for the congregation has assessed the budget for this next year and found insufficient funds for the repairing of six Torah scrolls in our charge. It is a Mitzvahh (good deed) to participate in the repair of a Torah scroll.

This pictured Torah scroll is in need of extensive repairs. The estimated repair cost for this one Torah is between $5,000 and $6,000.

Please help in this tremendous mitzvah and make this Torah scroll kosher. May the HOLY ONE bless you and your loved ones for performing such an important mitzvah.

In closing, if you have been blessed with the means to save this Torah by donating the entire repair cost, Congregation B’nai Jacob will commission a Torah cover inscribed with your name in grateful appreciation. This cover will be a reminder to us of your overwhelming generosity.
